The following request is from John Twining to all SPERA members and intereseted parties who may be able to help:
I am editing a book on Tropical Radioecology that will become one of the series on Environmental Radioactivity, edited by Prof. Murdock Baxter and published by Elsevier. However, for a range of reasons, (historical, cultural and experimental difficulties) there is a dearth of data for tropical & sub-tropical regions compared with temperate zones (particularly when referring to the Northern temperate regions). One of the largest deficits is in information on bioaccumulation into animals.
I am hoping that some SPERA members may be aware of regional data in their own countries on uptake of radioactivity into terrestrial animals that may be of some use. The data may be, for example, in old monitoring reports on uptake into farm animals or milk that were prepared during the era of atmospheric nuclear weapons testing and global fallout.
To make any bioaccumulation data most useful, some indication of the exposure causing the measured uptake would help to define a concentration factor to compare with the northern temperate data.
Any one who has data is encouraged to contact me using the details given below.
Cheers,
John Twining
